What is the Nara SDG Learning Tour?

01

奈良だから体感できるSDGs
SDGs that can be experienced only in Nara
To become creators of a sustainable society

There is real heritage that has been passed down in Nara for 1,300 years, buildings, Buddhist statues, and traditional events, and they are not only tourist resources but also educational resources for learning about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From the standpoint of "cultivating creators of a sustainable society" as indicated in the new national curriculum guidelines, the Nara SDG Learning Tour offers programs that enable participants to experience independent, interactive, and deep learning through Nara's real heritage and help them to develop problem-solving skills.

This is a new style of learning tourism that enables participants to experience not just traditional historical tourism but also real heritage that has lasted in Nara for 1,300 years. This is the essence of the Nara SDG Learning Tour.

Programs are developed through the collaboration of academia, industry, and government centered on Nara University of Education, which is at the forefront of education on SDGs

Nara University of Education, the first Japanese university registered as a UNESCO Associated School, is the only Japanese university that certifies ESD teachers, who can properly plan and implement ESD in schools and communities. For the Nara SDG Learning Tour, we are developing programs in collaboration with Nara University of Education, which is at the forefront of ESD.

旅マエ旅ナカ旅アトを意識したプログラム
Programs that take into account the periods before, during, and after the tour
  • Independent
  • Interactive
  • Deep learning

The above three factors are key points for programs from the standpoint of active learning. For the Nara SDG Learning Tour, we work to create guidebooks and develop guide training programs under the supervision of Nara University of Education, which is at the forefront of ESD in Japan, and propose learning methods (programs) for the following three stages so participants can effortlessly experience those three factors:

  • Before the tour
  • During the tour
  • After the tour

The experiences from these programs will help participants develop problem-solving skills and grow as creators of a sustainable society.

04

主体的で対話的で深い学び
The courses allow participants to experience independent, interactive, and deep learning while experiencing real heritage in Nara

The Nara SDG Learning Tour currently has three courses. The tours are conducted in small groups and visit real historical, cultural, and natural heritage of Nara with a guide. Through conversations with the guide, participants can deepen their learning, for example, by uncovering issues and exploring how to solve them.

  • Each group (five to 10 persons) is accompanied by a guide with specialized knowledge.
